Romania's Court of Audit discovers EUR 2 bln frauds in ten years
Romania’s Court of Accounts sent 105 notifications to the local prosecutors in the last ten years, which haven’t been solved yet. In each case, the court found damages of at least EUR 500,000. The total damage is estimated at EUR 1.9 billion.
In 2015, the Court of Accounts sent 40 notifications.
Last year, the court of audit signaled a case where the damage reached EUR 1.19 billion, which involved the Ilfov Public Finance County Administration. The notification was sent to the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), reports local Economica.net.
Another significant case involved Romania’s largest power producer Hidroelectrica. The damage in this case amounted to RON 446 million (EUR 99.4 million). The charges include abuse of office and negligence.
The third case, based on the value of the damage, points to the Constanta County Roads and Bridges Autonomous Authority (RAJDP). The institution is charged with abuse of office, forgery, and use of forgery. The damage reaches almost EUR 23 million. The Court of Accounts has sent its conclusions to DNA.
