20 March 2017

Romania ranked first in the European Union based on the dependence of its economy to multinationals, according to the latest research conducted by prof. Dr. Cazar Mereuta, based on Eurostat data.

Foreign companies generate some 48% of the total turnover and 44% of value added in the Romanian economy, reports local Ziarul Financiar. In Poland, multinationals generate about 30% of total turnover in the economy and 29% of total value added.

Mereuta, who is a Research Associate of the Centre for Economic Macro Modelling of the Romanian Academy, said that the Government of Romania should grant special attention to multinationals. The Government should even create a department to monitor multinationals, whose aim would be to prevent potential crises.
