Romania’s economy is flying high
Romania’s GDP increased by 4.1% (in seasonally adjusted terms) in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period last year. Compared to the last quarter of 2014, the GDP rose by 1.5%, according to the National Statistic Institute’s revised data.
The growth rates were slightly adjusted compared to the previous figures released in June, which showed a 4.2% increase compared to Q1 2014 and a 1.6% increase compared to Q4 2014.
The GDP amounted to EUR 39.2 billion in the first three months of the year. Prime Minister Victor Ponta took the opportunity to boast with his Government’s achievements.
“Again a confirmation that we have some of the best results in the EU. The data shows us that the economy is developing sustainably and that we are heading to record growth this year,” Ponta wrote on his Facebook page.
Romania’s economy increased by 2.8% last year compared to 2013. For this year, the National Prognosis Commission (CNP) estimates 3.3% economic growth.
