Romania's Education Minister resigns amid plagiarism accusations
The Romanian Education Minister Ion Mang resigned on Tuesday, amid plagiarism accusations, in order to save the Government from the effects of the campaign against him, according to him.
The resignation would also allow Mang to clear his name, without further pressure from being the head of a minister.
Liviu Pop was named interim minister and the Government should propose a replacement within 45 days.
This is the second change for the Education Ministry portfolio. The first candidate, Corina Dumitrescu, who was also at the centre of a media scandal involving her CV. The media spotted several grammar and spelling mistakes in her CV and, after a short investigation, concluded Dumitrescu did not study at Stanford University, as she claimed in her CV, where the university name was also misspelled.
Her candidacy was withdrawn before the new Government was sworn in and Mang replaced her.
Soon after taking office, he was accused of having plagiarized the works of some foreign authors, Eli Biham and Nathan Keller, Takeshi Shimoyama and Chu Hsin Lin, in three scientific papers. We wrote about this here.
