Romania’s electricity consumption continues decline
The final electricity consumption, which excludes losses in the distribution networks and the technological consumption of power producers, is estimated to drop by 8.3% this year, to 45.9 TWh, from 50.1 TWh in 2013.
This comes after a 6% decline in electricity consumption in 2013 and a 1.2% decline in 2012. In the first five months of this year, final consumption was down 1.4%, to 20.9 TWh. Romanian authorities estimate that electricity consumption will show a slight recovery next year, of 1.5%.
Last year, the total electricity consumption in Romania was 55.6 TWh, but 5.5 TWh were losses in the transport and distribution networks and technological consumption, according to Transelectrica, which is the operator of the national power grid.
