Romania's electricity production reaches highest level in ten years
Romania’s electricity production reached the highest level recorded in the last ten years, on Monday evening, December 19, due to the increase in consumption.
Romania saw an electricity peak production of 11,227 MW around 18:00. Consumption also reached a record level, namely 9,666 MW, according to data from Romania’s state-controlled electricity transporter Transelectrica, reports local Economica.net.
“It was a record demand generated by consumption. Not all places were ready to supply the population with thermal energy,” said Octavian Lohan, Transelectrica general manager.
In his opinion, Romania reached a record in electricity consumption because in many cities there is no central thermal heating anymore. He gave the example of Turnu Severin, a town that doesn’t have heating sources. As a result, many households use electric appliances for heating.
Transelectrica has been gathering information about local electricity production and consumption levels since 2007.
