Romania's Emergency Inspectorate can close clubs that break fire safety rules

17 March 2016

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis approved yesterday the emergency ordinance that allows Romania's Emergency Situations Inspectorate - ISU to close down all clubs, bars or cafes where the rules on fire safety aren’t respected.

The bill also refers to the places that don’t have an operating permit. ISU is now allowed to seal the constructions where the companies that broke the rules are operating, reports local Mediafax.

The law change has been triggered by the Colectiv tragedy that took place in Bucharest last fall. 64 people died after a fire broke out during a rock concert held in Colectiv club. The club was functioning without all the necessary operating permits from ISU and didn’t respect the fire safety rules.
