Romania’s Finance Minister, embarrassed with his salary
The Romanian minister’s salaries are “embarrassing” and wages in the public administration must be “reset” to higher levels, said Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici in an interview with Digi24 news station.
He said that a minister in Romania’s Government made about EUR 1,200 net a month.
“It is a subject that we don’t discuss with our foreign counterparts because no one believes such a thing,” Teodorovici said. He added that the salaries should be reset, although he didn’t have a figure of how much a minister should make.
“Without a strong public administration you can’t hope that things will be done right,” he said, according to Mediafax.
The low salaries earned by top Romanian public officials have often been publicly debated in recent years. The Romanian media has signaled many examples of employees in various ministries that made more than the ministers themselves. Some managers in state-owned enterprises, named by the ministers, made even ten times more than the members of the cabinet.
