Romania’s First Lady runs half marathon for social cause
Carmen Iohannis, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis' wife, will run the 2016 Sibiu Half Marathon for the We start the life! (Dam startul la viata!) social cause.
The First Lady has registered for the 4x5 km relay on Monday, May 16, reports local Digi24. The race will take place on May 28, in Sibiu.
Over 2,600 runners have registered for this year's Sibiu Half Marathon, according to the organizers.
The partner associations want to raise RON 70,000 (some EUR 15,600) for a modern neonatal ventilator to treat newborns and premature babies with respiratory problems. Most of the babies admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the Sibiu Emergency County Hospital suffer from this condition.
The funds raised during the half marathon will go to 21 causes proposed by the community in Sibiu. The runners support their favorite cause by participating in the event, but everybody can make direct donations on the event’s website.
Sibiu Community Foundation is the organizer of the half marathon in Sibiu. In four editions, the participants ran for 79 projects and raised a total of RON 450,000 (some EUR 100,000).
