Romania's former Transport Minister speaks of disagreements with PM
The former Transport Minister Dan Costescu said yesterday in an interview with local daily Gandul that his resignation was a result of the disagreements he had with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, including on the restructuring of the National Highways Company CNADNR.
“We had different work styles and different backgrounds,” Costescu said.
One of the main reasons for his resignation was the debate on how long the restructuring of the highways company should take. The Prime Minister supported a one-year project whereas the former Transport Minister said that a company the size of CNADNR needed at least 2-3 years to restructure.
“We couldn’t find a common path,” Costescu added.
The minister was highly criticized for his comment that train trips represent a luxury. He later said that he referred to train rides in other EU countries, whereas train rides are much more expensive that bus rides, for example.
Besides the resignation of Costescu, Ciolos laid off three other ministers last week.
