Romania's Government allocates over EUR 200 mln to prevent floods
Romania’s Government plans to allocate RON 900 million (EUR 203 million) between 2015 and 2017 for work destined to prevent and remove the effects of floods in the country. For this year, it will give some EUR 22.6 million.
Several flood defense hydro construction objectives have been severely affected by floods in the past few years. These need to be repaired, in order to avoid big damages even in the case of small intensity floods, according to the draft project approved by the Government, reports local Profit.ro.
In July, the European Parliament approved the European Commission's proposal to allocate EUR 8.5 million to Romania, to compensate for the damage caused by floods in 2014. The money will be paid from the European Solidarity Fund. Over 126,000 Romanians have been affected by floods last year.
