Romania's Government prepares fiscal amnesty for those who declare hidden wealth

27 January 2016

People who have made revenues and own assets for which they haven’t paid taxes will receive a grace period of up to six months to declare and pay their taxes. They will thus avoid charges of tax evasion.

Following this period, those who don’t comply with the law will pay taxes of 50%, according to government sources cited by local Profit.ro.

The Government will change the Fiscal Code in the next period to introduce this period of fiscal amnesty that will last somewhere between three and six months. The authorities are trying to discover untaxed revenues and attract more money to the state budget.

In November last year, the Tax Authority ANAF announced that it had found untaxed revenues of about EUR 20 million after controlling ten rich people.
