Several state institutions in Romania, including ministries, have been the target of large scale informatics attacks, said Sorin Sava, the spokesman for Romania’s Information Service (SRI), the country’s main secret service. SRI is currently in full alert.

Information security firm Kaspersky yesterday announced that the cyber espionage operation Epic Turla, one of the largest and most sophisticated campaigns in recent years, has been attacking Government institutions in Romania.

According to Kasperky, Romania is currently the most affected country in the world by this operation, taking into consideration the number of infected sites that are supporting the attack right now, which is six.

Romania is also seventh when it comes to the number of sites that are affected by the attack, with 15 victims identified so far. Among these are two ministries, two other governmental institutions, private companies as well as residential and mobile internet users.
