Romania's IT&C sector reaches EUR 2.8 billion
Romania’s IT&C sector has reached an average annual turnover of EUR 2.8 billion. However, specialists claim that its value could reach EUR 10 billion, said Aurel-Sorin Encutescu, State Secretary within the Economy Ministry.
In 2014, Romania had over 64,000 employees in the IT sector. It ranked first among the EU countries for the number of employees in the IT sector per capita, said Encutescu, cited by local Agerpres.
Last year, the sector was the third gross contributor to Romania’s GDP.
Total investments in the technology and communication sector could amount to EUR 2.4 billion.
Romania currently ranks fifth in the world for Internet speed, according to Encutescu. According to the Central Bank, the IT industry ranked 2nd among the service-exporting fields.
