Romania’s MedLife ups turnover in the first half, hopes to exceed 2.5 mln patients this year

31 October 2014

Romanian private healthcare operator MedLife ended the first six months of the year with a turnover of EUR 38.3 million, up 12% year-on-year, higher than the overall private medical services market increase of 8-9%.

“We’ve reached 1.3 million clients in the first six months, excepting subscribers, and by the end of the year we believe that we will exceed, for the first time, 2.5 million patients, the equivalent of over 10% of Romania’s population,” said MedLife president Mihai Marcu, cited by local Hotnews.ro.

There were no major changes on the market of private medical services in the first half of the year, according to Marcu. “The only splash of color was given by the stagnation of large companies and the strong growth of other companies ranked lower, a trend that, if maintained, could change the hierarchy of the biggest players in the private health system, as well as impact the market’s dynamics in the coming years,” he added.

He believes that the market’s dynamics will also be accentuated by several transactions to be recorded in the following six months.

MedLife’s plans for the following period include further expansion in the country, in line with the initial plan for 2014. The company plans to open two new hyper clinics be year-end, after opening the two large clinics in Galati and Iasi, reports local Hotnews.ro. In 2015, Medlife plans to further expand with four new clinics in large cities in Romania.
