Romania's PM Victor Ponta does a u-turn on statistics institute leadership
Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta has backtracked on the dismissal from the National Statistics Institute (INS) of Gered Beatrix and decided that Beatrix should be reinstalled as vice president. At the same time Ponta announced the dismissal of Cosmin Sabo from the INS. On Thursday ( July 5 ), the Prime Minister sacked Cristian Stan and Gered Beatrix and nominated Elena Iagar and Florin Ciurariu to their places at the INS.
As well as hiring and firing, Victor Ponta has asked the INS to update the electoral roll, saying that the figures currently used are out of date. The 2002 census data currently used overestimates the Romanian population by 3 million, according to Ponta.
