Romania's population down by 12.6% in 22 years
Romania's resident population decreased by 12.6% between 1992 and 2014, reaching 19.9 million citizens on January 1, 2014, said Tudorel Andrei, President of the National Institute of Statistics.
The counties with a decrease above 20% are Hunedoara (25.6%), Teleorman (24.1%), Caras - Severin (23.2%), Tulcea (23.2%), Mehedinti (22.1%), Braila (20.4%) and Neamt (20.1%).
In Bucharest, there were 2.068 million people in 1992, while on January 1, 2014 there were only 1.865 million people, a 9.8% decline.
Romania's resident population decreased by 72,763 people (0.36%) compared to January 1, 2013, and by 148,685 people (0.74 %) compared to January 1, 2012.
