Romania’s Prince Nicolae to cross Romania by bike for humanitarian purposes

09 March 2015

Romania’s Prince Nicolae will cross Romania by bike, on a route linking Sighetu Marmatiei in the northern Maramures region to the Black Sea port of Constanta in south-east Romania, for humanitarian purposes.

He will travel over 1,000 km in 11 days, between April 23 and May 3.

“I’ll go cycling from Sighetu Marmatiei to Constanta. […] It is a bit too much, over 1,000 km, but it will be a great pleasure to do it. I am doing this to raise money for Curtea Veche Association, an association that focuses on education and children,” said Prince Nicolae, cited by local Agerpres.

During the tour, he will stay one day in Sibiu, one in Bucharest and two days in Constanta.

“I think it will be an excellent opportunity for the cyclists’ community, it is an area that should be promoted more by the country and by the young people,” the Prince added.

Prince Nicolae, 29, is the eldest grandson of King Michael and third in line to Romania's throne, according to the new statute of the Romanian royal family enacted in 2007. He is Princess Elena's son and Princess Margareta's nephew.
