Romania's proposals for the Oscars to be screened at Vienna film festival
The film Cainele Japonez/The Japenese Dog, directed by Romanian Tudor Cristian Jurgiu, will be screened at the LET’S CEE Film Festival 2014 organized in Vienna. The screenings are scheduled to take place on Friday, October 10, from 18:30 and Saturday, October 11, from 15:00. The Romanian film was selected in the festival’s Promising Debuts section.
The Japanese Dog is Romania’s proposal to the Oscar Prizes in 2015, in the category “Best Foreign Language Film”.
The film is a sensitive story about family reconciliation in which Romanian veteran actor Victor Rebengiuc plays a taciturn farmer recovering from the death of his wife in a devastated flood. Having also lost his house, Costache spends his days trying to fix up his new home and generally avoiding his neighbors. The old man turns out to have a son who lives in Japan and whom he hasn’t told anything about his mother’s death.
