Romania’s Simona Halep is spiraling down with new defeat in Doha
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep was eliminated in the second round of the Qatar Tennis Open in Doha, after losing to Russia’s Elena Vesnina (number 118 WTA). Halep won the first set 7-6 but lost the next ones 4-6, 1-6.
This is the third consecutive tournament that Simona Halep has left after just one match after she was also eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open and in the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
After this new flop, the Romanian will likely go further down in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world. She ended last year on the second spot in the WTA ranking but this week she fell to fourth.
Romania’s Monica Niculescu managed to beat Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) and moved to the third round of the Quatar Total Open. She will play against Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska in the third round.
