Romania's Southern region again under Code Orange

The National Meteorological Administration in Romania issued Code Orange and Code Yellow for abundant snowfalls between February 12, 18:00 and February 14 in counties in the southern region of the country.

According to the warning, between February 12 and February 13 Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Olt, Valcea counties will be affected by snow and blizzard. The situation will extend to Arges, Dambovita, Virginia, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Prahova, Calarasi,Ialomita, Buzau, Braila, Vrancea, Galati, Tulcea, Constanta counties between February 13 and 14.

Between February 14, 02:00  and 14:00 Muntenia, Moldova and southern Dobrogea regions of Romania will also experience abundant snow and blizzards. Traffic will be interrupted on several national roads in the country: A2  (Drajna - Fetesti (CALEA 2)), DN 1D  (Albesti - Urziceni), DN 23B  (Ciorasti), DN 5A  (Izvoarele), DN 5B  (Giurgiu - Ghimpati), DN 61  (Ghimpati - Gaesti) and DN 65A  (Putineiu - Turnu Magurele). The Ministry also said that tehere are some train routes that are close. Those are Faurei – Buzau, Girgiu Nord – Videle, Ploiesti Sud- Urziceni, Ploiesti Est – Turnu Magurele, Slobozia Veche – Urziceni and Titan – Oltenia, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Romania has been under Orange and Yellow codes for the last two weeks. Villages have been isolated and national roads have been closed, leaving people snowed in, without access to food, water and medicine.

Other countries European countries are affected by the bad weather, too. Snow and blizzard continues to ravage many European countries. The total balance of dead people in Europe is of 590 deaths. Over 70,000 people are still isolated due to heavy snowfall in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
