Romania's Tax Administration receives 12,000 fake submissions for 2% income tax redirection

30 May 2012

As many as 12,000 tax submissions that redirected 2 percent of the individuals' taxes to a non-profit association in several counties were fake, according to the Tax Administration (ANAF). Many of the forms had been sent together, with no centralizer and without the consent of the individuals whose revenues and taxes were detailed on the forms, according to the country's Tax Administration, that has asked the prosecutors to look into the case.

ANAF got in touch with some of the individuals, who said they had not given their consent to re-direct 2 percent of their income tax to the Association for Home Care Elena in Cluj – Napoca. So far, 1,200 fake forms were sent in Mures county, and in total 12,000 such fake forms were sent to the tTax Administration offices all over Romania. In 2011, the association received 51 submissions for the 2 percent income tax, or some RON 3,644 in total for the year 2010.

ANAF has asked individuals to be cautious when giving their fiscal identification details, in order to avoid situations when their details are used for illegal purposes. Non-profit organizations were also asked to comply with all the legal procedures when submitting documents on behalf of those who choose to re-direct 2 percent of their income tax to that organization.
