Romania's Tax Agency collects more than planned, but less than last year
The revenues collected by Romania’s Tax Agency ANAF amounted to some EUR 18.3 billion in the first five months of the year, 3.3% more than the planned level for this period, said the ANAF president Dragos Doros.
The revenues collected from VAT totaled EUR 4.9 billion, up 4% over the estimated budget, he added.
Compared to the same period of last year, however, the revenues collected by ANAF dropped by 8%. Doros said that the result is due to the general VAT rate cut from 24% to 20% at the beginning of the year.
The revenues collected in January exceeded the estimates because January is an exception month, the ANAF president explained. The consumption was still up after the holidays period, and the state collected EUR 133 million over the estimated amount from the excise duties on tobacco, which was related to the uncertainties about the implementation of the Tobacco Directive in Romania.
The total revenues were according to the estimated program in February, March and April. In May, the revenues exceeded the ones collected in May 2015, the president ANAF added.
