Romania's tax agency starts controlling local rental market
Romania’s tax agency ANAF has started a series of controls on the local rental market.
The inspections will be carried out at the headquarters of house owners’ associations, reports local Profit.ro. The people who have lease agreements on their houses need to submit copies of their contracts at the owners’ association.
Dragos Doros, the head of ANAF, earlier said that tax representatives would first organize a campaign for informing the owners, and then would start controls. The main reason is that many people who lease an apartment declare a “modest” monthly rent in order to pay smaller taxes. Some don’t even conclude a lease agreement with the tenants.
The owners’ associations have already begun to ask house owners for copies of lease agreements on their apartments.
“At the moment, owners who make money from rents have become a focus for us,” Doros said.
