Romania’s tax agency fined for publishing list of individual tax debtors
Romania's National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) has fined the country's tax agency ANAF with RON 16,000 (some EUR 3,500) for publishing the list of the biggest individual tax debtors in Romania.
On May 16 this year, ANAF published the list of individuals with overdue tax debts of over RON 1,500 (EUR 334.2) at the end of March this year. The list included more than 187,000 taxpayers.
After the list’s publication, the ANSPDCP decided to investigate ANAF and found that the individuals’ personal data were processed unlawfully, as ANAF published the list on a website other than its official web page. Moreover, the data were inaccurate and outdated when the list was announced.
ANAF has also failed to provide full information to the individuals whose personal data were published on May 16, either by prior notification sent by email or in the information published on its website, according to a statement of ANSPDCP.
