Romania's tax authority blocks public television’s accounts
Romania’s National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) blocked on July 20 the Romanian national television TVR’s accounts, because of the high level of debt TVR has to pay to the state budget, according to sources from TVR, cited by local Mediafax.
The ANAF apparently motivated the decision saying that the public television, which is coordinated by Stelian Tanase, didn’t respect the 2012 memorandum of understanding through which the Government allowed TVR’s debt restructuring over a period of seven years.
The blocked accounts can also block the public television’s activity. TVR’s board will analyze the situation on Tuesday, July 21.
The public television had almost EUR 160 million of debt at the end of 2014, some EUR 100 million of which was to the state budget. TVR had revenues of EUR 122 million and EUR 18 million losses in 2014.
