Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau qualified for the semifinals of Grand Slam tournament Australian Open, where he will play doubles with Indian Sania Mirza.

The duo defeated Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Julia Goerges in the quarterfinals.

They are now to face the team Matthew Ebden/Jarmila Gajdosova.

Tecau and Mirza will receive AUD 33,900 prize for their qualification into the semifinals.

Tecau's qualification comes soon after Romania’s up-and-coming women’s tennis star Simona Halep suffered a crushing defeat at the Australian Open grand slam in the quarterfinal.

She lost to Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova.
