Romania’s tennis ace Simona Halep goes up to number two in WTA rankings

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has moved up one place in the WTA ranking, this being the best ever ranking for a Romanian female tennis player. With 6,785 points, Halep outpaced Chinese Na Li, who is at number 3 with 6,565 points.

American tennis player Serena Williams ranks first with 9,150 points.

Other Romanian tennis players in the WTA ranking are Monica Niculescu - at number 61, Irina-Camelia Begu - at 62, Sorana Cirstea - at 80 and Dulgheru Alexandra - at 94.

Halep reached the podium of the WTA ranking of the best women tennis players in the world after playing the final at the French Open in Roland Garros, her first grand slam final, at the beginning of June this year. However, she lost that final to Russian Maria Sharapova.

In mid-July, the Romanian tennis player won the first edition of BRD Bucharest Open.
