Romania's Tourism Ministry plans EUR 400,000 electronic system to count tourists

03 March 2011

The Regional Development and Tourism Ministry in Romania wants to buy an electronic system which will allow it to count the number of tourists in the country. The ministry has started the acquisition procedures for the EUR 400,000 project. The company which will win the auction will deliver "turnkey" hardware and software components and the services necessary to implement the system.

Romania plans to use the electronic system to combat tourism tax evasion, especially because of the differences between the number of tourists reported by different institutions and those reported by the tourist reception system.

The Integrated Information System will be accessible to all tourist establishments authorized by the ministry and will allow the data to be consolidated in a centralized registry.
