Romania’s trade deficit up by almost 50%
Romania’s trade deficit increased by 46.5% in the first five months of the year reaching EUR 3.76 billion, as imports rose by 8.7% year-on-year whereas exports saw an annual growth of 4.4%.
Romania imported EUR 27 billion worth of products between January and May, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The exports totaled EUR 23.2 billion during this period.
In May, the exports reached EUR 4.7 billion whereas imports amounted to EUR 5.6 billion. Compared to the same month last year, exports rose by 4.1% and imports went up by 12.2%.
Romania exported most of its products to the European Union, namely EUR 17.6 billion. The imports from the EU totaled EUR 21 billion. Cars and transport equipment accounted for 48.1% of the exports and 37.6% of the imports.
