Romania’s trade deficit drops in 2013, exports reach record level
Romania recorded a trade deficit of EUR 5.7 billion in 2013, down some EUR 3.9 billion compared to the previous year, while exports reached a record level of EUR 49.5 billion, up 10 percent year-on-year, according to the recent estimations of the National Statistics Institute INS.
The imports totaled EUR 55.2 billion in 2013, close to the level reported in 2012.
By group of products, an important share of the exports and imports was held by machinery and transport equipment: 42 percent of exports and 35 percent of imports, and other manufactured products.
In December 2013, Romania’s trade deficit was of some EUR 494 million, with EUR 382 million lower than the one recorded in the same month of 2012, according to INS.
The exports reached a level of EUR 3.8 billion in December, up some 22 percent year-on-year, when compared to the previous month, the exports dropped some 14 percent.
The imports totaled some EUR 4.3 billion in the last month of 2013, up 8.1 percent compared to December 2012.
