Romania’s trade deficit, up almost 28% in first eight months
Romania’s trade deficit increased by 27.9% in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching over EUR 6.13 billion, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The exports amounted to EUR 37.4 billion between January and August, up 4% year-on-year, whereas the imports totaled over EUR 43.5 billion, up 6.8% year-on-year.
Exports in the European Union reached EUR 28 billion, namely 75% of the total value of exports. Imports from the EU countries amounted to 33.6 billion, or 77.1% of the total imports.
Romania exported products and services of over EUR 9.3 billion outside the EU, and recorded imports of over 9.9 billion from countries that are not EU member states.
In August exports amounted to EUR 4.4 billion whereas imports exceeded EUR 5.4 billion, with the deficit reaching over EUR 1 billion.
