Romania's transport minister promises more highway inaugurations next year
Some 150 kilometers of new highways will be inaugurated next year, some 10 times more than this year, according to transport minister Sorin Buse.
Romania may reach over 1,000 kilometers of highways in 2018 from some 750 kilometers now.
“In 2017, we will open 150 kilometers of highways for traffic, 117 kilometers of which are in an advanced stage. For 30 something kilometers we will have to monitor the work more closely to make sure they will be finalized,” Buse said in a press conference.
The Government has paid less than EUR 100 million for highway projects this year, which stands for only a quarter of the budgeted amount at the beginning of the year. Most highways under construction haven’t made significant progress due to blocked auctions and difficulties in getting the necessary building permits.
