14 January 2016

Untold, Romania’s biggest electronic music festival, won the Best Major Festival title at the 2015 European Festival Awards. It’s the first time when a Romanian festival wins such an award. The event’s achievement is even bigger, considering that Untold had its first edition in 2015.

Untold is an electronc music festival that takes place in Cluj-Napoca, in central Romania. Untold’s first edition was organized between July 30 and August 2, 2015 and attracted a crowd of some 240,000 people. Its lineup included some 170 international and Romanian artists who performed on 8 stages, starring famous DJs Avicii, Armin van Buuren, ATB, Fedde le Grande, Tinie Tempah, John Newman, Patrice, and David Guetta.

Untold 2016 will take place between August 4 and August 7 in Cluj-Napoca. Tiesto is first international star the organizers have announced for this year’s edition of the event.

The other festivals shortlisted for this award were Deichbrand Festival (Germany), Dour Festival (Belgium), Exit Festival (Serbia), Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium), Mysteryland (Netherlands), Pinkpop (Netherlands), Rock Werchter (Belgium), Sziget Festival (Hungary), and Tomorrowland (Belgium).

Untold was also shortlisted in the Best New Festival category, but the award went to Germany’s Lollapalooza Berlin.

Other Romanian festivals were in the cards for winning a prize at the 2015 European Festival Awards: Electric Castle Festival was shortlisted in the Best Medium-Sized Festival category, Jazz In The Park and Plai were among the festivals shortlisted for the Best Small Festival award, and TiMAF (Transylvania International Music and Art Festival) was on the short list for the Best Indoor Festival title.
