Romania's wine sector attracts investments of over EUR 500 mln
Romania’s wine sector has attracted investments of over EUR 500 million since 2000, being one of the most performant agriculture sectors, said Cornel Dicu, a director within the Agriculture Ministry. The money was used to reconvert and upgrade local vineyards.
Almost all wine companies in Romania which are active on the EU market have new plantations, which include local varieties, Dicu said, cited by local Agerpres. However, the Romanian wine sector needs promotion.
Stories that local wines are made from pills are still present in Romania, so that a national promotion of Romanian wines is first needed, according to Dicu.
Romania is now fifth in the EU for its vineyard surface, with over 200,000 hectares, and sixth in terms of production.
