Romania's women's handball team qualify for 2016 Olympics in Rio
Romania’s women’s handball team will play at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after winning the qualifying tournament in Denmark over the weekend.
Romania beat Denmark on Friday, with a score of 32-25, and then defeated Uruguay on Saturday, with 36-19. Montenegro also beat Uruguay on Friday and Denmark on Saturday. Thus, both countries qualified for the Olympics.
On Sunday, Romania played against Montenegro and the match ended 23-23.
Romania ended the pre-Olympic tournament on top of its group. Russia, Sweden, Netherlands, and France also qualified for the Olympics alongside world champions Norway. The summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will start on August 5 and end on August 21.
The last time Romania's women's handball team competed at the Olympics was in 2008, when they finished 7th.
