Rompetrol: Gas stations in Romania will run out of gas without rapid road clearing solution

13 February 2012

Romanian oil and gas company Rompetrol has seen “big difficulties” in transporting oil products from its Petromidia refinery to its deposits and gas stations in the country. Unless a rapid solution will be found to unblock the situation, oil companies may not be able to ensure the needed oil and gas for the basic activities in the country, according to Rompetrol, quoted by Ziarul Financiar. The state – owned freight railway company CFR Marfa blocked traffic on railways at the beginning of the month – for example the Constanta – Bucharest line, and many national roads are being closed down periodically, preventing oil and gas company to transport products to their retail networks.

However, none of Rompetrol's gas stations is out of gas, while the Rompetrol Downstream gas stations are working under normal winter conditions. The two Litro gas stations on the A2 highway were however closed down, as the highway was also closed.

The company has seen a drop in oil and gas consumption because of closed roads, while Rompetrol's priorities including gas for authorities and institutions which provide aid for the population.
