Russia says it can destroy NATO’s antimissile defense systems in Romania and Poland
Russia has missiles that can destroy any antiballistic elements installed by the US, according to Russian general Sergei Karakaev, the commander of the country’s Strategic Missile Forces (SMF).
In his statement, the general referred to the antimissile defense systems installed in Romania and Poland, reports local Mediafax.
“Specialists’ evaluations show that the US antimissile defense systems that are currently being installed will not be able to withstand an intense attack carried out by Russian strategic units,” the Russian general said.
He also added that Russia had modern ballistic missile systems on its territory whose positions were not known by the “enemies”.
Russia previously warned Romania about the antimissile defense system the US was installing on its territory.
In November, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would take the necessary measures to strengthen the capacity of its strategic nuclear forces in response to the deployment of US missile defense systems. He also said that the Russian military would work on the strike systems able to overcome any missile defenses.
US Ambassador: The antimissile shield at Deveselu will become operational in March 2016.
