Ryanair challenges WizzAir and Blue Air on Italian routes
The competition on the local low-cost airline market has just got more intense after Irish airline Ryanair launched on Sunday its four new routes from Bucharest to Italy. Ryanair thus challenges Hungarian airline WizzAir and Romanian Blue Air, which have been the busiest carriers on the routes to Italy for many years now.
Ryanair will have two flights a day from Bucharest to Rome (Ciampino) and return, one flight a day to Milano Bergamo, five flights a week to Bologna, and four flights a week to Milano Malpensa, the company announced. Flights to these destinations for November and December can be booked for as low as EUR 9.99 (by November 5), Ryanair’s representatives said.
Ryanair also flies from Bucharest to London (twice a day), Madrid and Brussels (once a day), and Dublin (four times a week).
“These routes will bring an air traffic of 1.1 million passengers per year and will support over 800 jobs related to the Bucharest Airport’s activities,” said Denis Barabas, Sales and Marketing Executive Romania and CEE at Ryanair.
Wizz Air Operates ten routes from Bucharest to Italy while Blue Air has eight routes. Unlike Ryanair, which only operates from Bucharest, Wizz Air and Blue Air also fly from other Romanian cities.
