Searches start at Romanian Professional Football Federation in EUR 3 mln tax evasion, money laundry for football matches TV rights

Prosecutors have raided the Romanian Professional Football Federation LPF in Bucharest as they investigate tax evasion and money laundry surrounding the sale of broadcasting rights for football matches.

The homes of several people believed to have been involved have also been searched including former LPF president Dumitru Dragomir's house, according to Mediafax.

UPDATE: Dumitru Dragomir was taken into custody for 24 hours, with a proposal to extend the arrest over 29 days.

In total, 11 searches were conducted in Bucharest and in the Ilfov county. Prosecutors believe the damage is of EUR 3 million.

According to the Bucharest Police, the targeted people – which were not named – were involved in crimes related to selling the television rights for football matches in the First League between 2011 and 2013. Prosecutors are expected to bring in 7 people for questioning.
