Romanian Senate adopts bill for regulating ridesharing services
Ridesharing or alternative transport platforms such as Uber will have to register in Romania and report each order to the authorities, under a bill already passed by the Senate.
At the same time, the cars will have to have a special badge, and the platforms, as well as the drivers, will pay an annual fee. The drivers will have to prove clear criminal records as well, Avocatnet.ro reported.
The decision to regulate the ridesharing services comes in the context when the Government has already drafted an emergency ordinance that regulates taxi transport and outlaws both Uber and Taxify / Bolt.
In related news, Mediafax reported that the taxi operators registered under existing legislation warned of mass protests in case the lawmakers delay the enactment of a law that sets strict regulations for the sector, outlawing de facto services like Uber and Taxify.
