Senate sets up company for Bucharest-Brasov motorway
Romania’s Senate passed on March 20 a draft law for the Bucharest-Brasov highway investment objective, aimed at setting up a dedicated company with the mission of completing the project within three years.
The Popular Movement Party (PMP) of former president Traian Basescu came up with this draft bill and all political parties have supported it, despite the negative opinion issued by Senate’s expert transport committee.
The senators adopted the draft law with 81 votes in favor and two votes against, Hotnews.ro reported. They also rejected the expert committee’s report.
The draft law stipulates that “within 60 days from the enforcement of this law, at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport, the Government is compelled to set up a joint stock company of national strategic interest, having as object of activity the design and construction of the Bucharest-Brasov Highway investment objective and named National Company for the Construction of the Bucharest-Brasov Motorway SA”.
The deadline for completing Bucharest-Brasov highway is three years from the enforcement of this law. The Chamber of Deputies also has to vote on this bill.
