Tennis star Simona Halep named most successful woman in Romania
Tennis star Simona Halep, the current number one in the WTA ranking of best women's tennis players in the world, has been named the most successful woman in Romania, according to a ranking compiled by local business publication Capital.
The top lists 100 successful women in Romania from 10 professional categories, namely entrepreneurship, business, politics and public administration, law, consulting, marketing and PR, sports, science-art-culture, journalism-stars and social involvement.
The ranking was made based on points given on several criteria, such as the achievements in the past 12 months, notoriety, career, the involvement in social responsibility projects, and the material situation.
Simona Halep had the highest score – 460 points, 80 points more than last year. the European Commissioner for Regional Policies Corina Cretu ranked second with 415 points, followed by local entrepreneur Anca Vlad, the owner of the Catena pharmacy network, with 405 points.
Simona Halep became the 25th player to achieve the No.1 ranking on October 9, 2017, following her 27th career WTA final at the China Open in Beijing. In late-October, she received the WTA Year-End No.1 trophy, presented by Dubai Duty Free, as she will finish the year on the first place in the singles ranking of best women's tennis players in the world.
Simona Halep, 26, entered the WTA Top 10 for the first time on January 27, 2014, and has maintained her Top 10 status for 196 consecutive weeks. Having made her debut in the Top 5 in the spring of 2014, the Romanian has spent just eight weeks below that threshold.
Halep has also been included in Capital's Top 300 Richest Romanians, with an estimated wealth of EUR 20-22 million.
