Romania’s Simona Halep to meet Serena Williams in Indian Wells semi-finals
Romanian tennis star Simona Halep (number 3 in the WTA ranking) qualified last night to the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (USA) after she beat Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro.
Halep lost the first set 5-7, after losing the first four games of the match, but managed to recover and won the other two sets 6-1, 6-1.
In the semis, Simona Halep will play against American champion Serena Williams, the world’s number one player and the tournament’s main favorite.
This will be their first clash after the Champions’ Tournament in Singapore, at the end of October 2014. Halep then stunned Williams in the group stage with a two-set win (6-0, 6-2), but the American took her revenge in the final of the tournament where she beat Halep in two sets (6-3, 6-0).
"I'm looking forward to playing the No.1 in the world again now!" Halep said, according to wtatennis.com.
