Which are the smartest cities in Romania?
The central-Romania city of Alba Iulia is by far the local community with the most smart-city projects implemented or ongoing, with 60 such projects.
The city has already been praised by the World Bank as one of the best communities when it comes to drawing funds for community development.
Among the projects implemented in Alba Iulia are smart lighting, air quality monitoring, smart parking, traffic monitoring system as well as the monitoring of water consumption and losses in the water distribution network.
Another city that has been making progress towards becoming a smart city is Cluj-Napoca, which has 10 such projects, including the first virtual public clerk, Antonia. Arad comes next, with nine smart-city projects, followed by Sibiu and Oradea, with eight each, and Bucharest with six. Bucharest has recently hired Deloitte to draft its smart city strategy.
In total, there are 24 cities in Romania which have implemented smart-city projects, according to the Romanian Association for Smart City and Mobility.
