Snow removal services for unfinished highways in Romania
Romania’s National Highways Company CNADNR has launched public tenders to acquire services for snow removal for highway segments that haven’t yet been opened for traffic.
These include the Sebes-Turda highway and the Gilau-Nadaselu and Suplacu de Barcau-Bors segments of the Transylvania Highway.
When asked why they have auctioned off services for highways still under construction, CNADNR representatives said they’ve done it “preventively,” reports local Economica.net. The contracts amount to over EUR 10 million.
“If the constructor says that we can open the highway, it’s good to have the snow removal services,” a CNADNR official said.
He added that the process is not illegal and that the signed agreements don’t automatically create payment obligations.
“The framework-agreement is a promise, it doesn’t oblige us to anything,’ he said.
The Gilau-Nadaselu highway segment has the highest chances to be completed by the end of the year. For the Suplacu de Barcau-Bors segment, the deadline is July next year. The Sebeş-Turda highway should have been completed this year, but only half of it is done.
