The film “Somewhere”, Sofia Coppola’s most recent feature movie, awarded with a Golden Lion at 2010 edition of the Venice Film Festival, will be screened for the first time in Romania, at the Bucharest International Film Festival (Bucharest IFF). The trailer for “Somewhere” below.

The event, due to take place between April 11 and 17, will bring together several of the best films in 2010.  Bucharest IFF will be opened by Danis Tanovic’s production, “Cirkus Columbia”. The public will also watch movies which include “Carlos”, by Olivier Assayas, “Greenberg”, written and directed by Noah Baumbach, and “Outrage”, by Takeshi Kitano.

The Guest of Honor of this 7th edition is the Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, who will introduce his most recent film, 'Cirkus Columbia', within the Opening Gala.

The jury and the complete program of the films selected by Romanian film critic Andrei Cretulescu will be announced on March 30th. The 7th edition of Bucharest IFF will be housed by three movie theaters in Bucharest: Studio Cinema, The New Cinema of the Romanian Director ( accommodated by the Museum of the Romanian Peasant) and “Elvira Popescu” at the French Institute in Bucharest. The festival, initiated and coordinated by Diana Dimitriu-Chelba, with the help of National Centre of Cinema, is the first and only feature film competition in Bucharest.

First organized in 2005, the festival focuses on independent, low-budget productions, but the selections also include important international movies. Films such as “Lust, Caution” (Ang Lee), “Eldorado” (Bouli Lanners), “Tokio” (Michel Gondry, Leos Carax & Bong Joon-Ho”), but also the Romanian productions “The happiest girl in the world” (Radu Jude) and “Portrait of the fighter as a young man” (Constantin Popescu) were presented for the first time to the public at Bucharest IFF.
