Soufflet Malt expands storage capacity in Romania with acquisition of silos from Cargill
American agricultural trader Cargill sold two silos, of 25,000 and 23,000– tonnes capacity in Braila and Tandarei, in Eastern Romania, to Soufflet Group, which wanted to expand its storage capacity and expand operations in Romania. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The decision to sell was mainly triggered by overcapacity, according to Cargill.
The two units together have 29 employees that will move to Soufflet. The company's new storage capacities will ensure procurement for the group's malt factory in Buzau, which has a capacity of 106,000 tonnes. Soufflet is one of the main producers of raw materials for brewers in Romania and the deal increases its storage capacity in Romania by 50 percent.
Cargill bought the first silo in Romania in 2000. The company buys and sells cereals, offers storage services in its silos, as well as producing and selling bottled oil and producing fodder.
