Bucharest light festival marks opening of Romania – France Season

01 April 2019

Spotlight, the International Light Festival, will mark at this year’s edition the opening of the Romania – France Season. The festival takes place between April 18 and April 21, on Calea Victoriei, and includes light installations, video-mapping projections and architectural lighting projects of local and international artists.

The collaboration between Romania and France has materialized through the appointment of Jean-François Zurawik, the director and producer of Fête des Lumières Lyon, as the artistic director of the 2019 edition of Spotlight.

Zurawik trained in communication and audio-visual media. He set up his own company of audio-visual production and event planning in Strasbourg. His work took him throughout Europe, North Africa, and Middle East. Since 2003, he has been leading the event department of the City Hall of Lyon and he has been in charge with the general coordination of Fête des Lumières, a festival which hosts more than two million visitors during its four evenings.

The France – Romania Season, a broad project of public, cultural and economic diplomacy, opened in Paris on November 27 of last year. In Romania, the event takes place from April 18 to July 14.

Spotlight also marks Romania’s presidency of the EU Council.
