Romanian industry turnover in January 2014, for both domestic and foreign markets, has decreased by 2.3 percent against the previous month, but went up over 12 percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the data provided by the National Statistics Institute INS.

The month-on-month drop was due to the decrease in the mining and quarrying sector (down 10.8 percent) and in manufacturing.

Compared to January 2013, the industry turnover increased overall by 12.2 percent in January this year, mainly due to rises in manufacturing - up 13.2 percent. However, the mining and quarrying sector recorded a decrease of 9.2 percent, according to INS.

Of main industrial groups, there were rises in the following sectors: durable goods industry - up 19.6 percent, capital good industry - plus 12.7 percent, consumer goods industry - up 12.6 percent, the intermediate goods industry - up 12.3 percent, and the energy industry, which went up 7.2 percent.
